DUNG BALL OF ART
OpenArt Festival,Örebro, Sweden 2024
Material: recycled materials from former art works, diameter: 4 m
The scarab dung beetle rolls a large ball of organic dung in front of it. In ancient Egypt the Scarabaeus was considered sacred, its sphere symbolizing the sun and rebirth.
For the OpenArt Festival, I formed an oversized sphere from the remains of former works of art. As if by chance, it has been rolled into place next to flower pots and seating platforms in front of the Culture Center in Örebro.
It consists of plastic pipes, bed frames, Plexiglas panels, tires, spindles, colored and sculpturally designed fragments of plywood, polystyrene and hard foam. I found the materials on the festival's production site and fed them back into the artistic process.
