SHIMOBUN CLOUD - Part 2

Kamiyama, Shikoku, Japan, 2014

60 rings, cedar wood, grey and white garden nets
Total diameter 12 by 5 meters.

My first impressions from the mountains around Kamiyama were the deep hanging clouds in the canyons of the cedar wood forests. This poetical image reminded me of Japanese ink brush paintings that show mountains and trees appearing out of the nothingness of the white paper.
So I came up with the idea to build an installation in the mountains that symbolizes a cloud. The work is built out of 60 rings out of cedar wood that are screwed together. The installation was set up in spring 2014 on the steep terrasses of the Shimobun mountains of Kamiyama.
